Struggling to lose weight?
It’s extremely frustrating.
You feel like you’re putting in a lot of work but you’re not getting a good return on your investment. It feels like you’re taking one step forward, two steps back. You just can’t get any positive momentum going.
Sound familiar? So, where do you from here?
In this video, I’m gonna show you the real reason why you’re struggling to lose weight and what you need to do instead.
Struggling To Lose Weight? Here’s What To Do
It starts here.
The first thing that you need to do if you’re struggling to lose weight is you need to be brutally honest with yourself with where you’re at right now.
The biggest thing you want to look at is yourself. What is your role in this? What is the role that you’re playing in this struggle to lose weight? Things are obviously not working. What is it about your current behaviours and actions that got you to this point?
Because you’re in control. You’re in control of what you’re putting in your mouth. Nobody forced you to crush that bag of chips in one sitting.
You have to be brutally honest with yourself. You are where you’re at today because of your own actions.
That is where Intellectual Honesty comes into play. A person is being intellectually honest when he or she knowing the truth states the truth.
You Need To Be Brutally Honest With Yourself
And that is the most important part. You need to speak the truth. You need to be brutally honest with yourself. And if you’re being honest, then you’ll know that it’s completely 100% your fault why you’re struggling to lose weight right now. There is something that you’re doing that’s causing this struggle to lose weight.
That’s probably not the answer that you’re looking for but it’s the answer you need to hear.
I’m giving you some tough love here because I know what it feels like to struggle to lose weight for years (see picture on the left). I know what it feels like to be stuck and not know what to do.
And I want you to change. I want you to get results. I want things to get better for you. But it starts with admitting that it is 100% your own fault why you’re struggling to lose weight right now.
The good thing is you have the power to change.
Instead of blaming yourself and just eating your feelings away and that is such a vicious circle by the way. You feel bad that you’re struggling to lose weight so you just eat even more. You eat your feelings away. Instead of blaming yourself, again, you can do something about it.
The sooner you can admit that it’s your fault, the sooner you can get to work.
If you’re ready this at home right now. You look in the mirror and you’re just not happy with yourself. Instead of saying, “I’ll just start again on Monday” for the 100th time. Or instead of blaming the weather. Instead of blaming other people. Instead of blaming it on the party that you went to this weekend that derailed your diet again. You need to be completely honest with yourself and admit that it’s your own damn fault.
Listen, you can make excuses or you can get results. But you can’t do both.
You need to assess your situation. What is causing you to struggle to lose weight? Because oftentimes, if you’re struggling to lose weight, it’s not like you’re incapable of losing weight. Nobody is born fat. You’re born skinny.
You’re struggling to lose weight because you’re not following the right system.
Bottom line is there is no magic pill to losing weight. There is no ‘get skinny overnight’ scheme when it comes to weight loss. You can’t keep on eating pizza, pasta, and cookies and expect to lose weight just because it fits in your macros. It doesn’t work like that.
You can’t just go to the gym five, six, or seven days every week and expect to lose weight.
It’s not just calories in calories out.
The sooner you can accept that, the sooner you can actually get results. Here’s one of my favourite quotes that exemplifies my point.
Losing Weight Takes Time
This weight loss transformation that you’re trying to achieve is going to take some work. It’s going to take some time. It’s going to take patience. A lot of patience.
And part of being brutally honest with yourself is setting a realistic goal for how long your weight loss transformation is actually going to take.
Because as a society, we’ve grown to just want instant gratification. We want things right away. We want to lose weight right away. And if you’re overweight, and you’ve been overweight for a long time, then know that it’s going to take some time for that weight to come off.
It didn’t take you two weeks to put on the weight that you’re so desperately trying to lose, right? What makes you think you can just lose it all in two weeks?
Everybody wants to sell you on their get skinny fast diet, but I am telling you it’s going to take some time. The sooner you can accept that, the higher your chances are of actually achieving real sustainable results.
You have to understand that this is a process. And the most important part is the process. You have to go through it.
The number that you want to aim for is 1-2 pounds of fat loss every week. If you do a little math, let’s say you have a lot of weight to lose. If you’re losing two pounds per week, in 12 weeks time or 3 months, that adds up to 24 lbs of weight loss. That’s a lot. That can be life changing for someone. You just have to understand that change takes time.
It’s Time To Take action
Now once you admit that it’s your fault then it’s time to take action. You need to show up every single day. What I mean by that is you’re not always going to have good days. Not every day is going to be surrounded by puppies, rainbows, and unicorns.
There’s gonna be bad days along the way. You’re going to have days where you just don’t feel like working out. You don’t feel like going to the gym. And that is what separates the people that get great results versus the people that get mediocre results, or don’t get results at all.
The people that get results still show up even though they’re having a bad day.
This is why bad workouts are extremely important. Because if you had a bad workout, that means you still showed up. You still showed up to the gym even though you’re having a bad day. There is so much more value in that, not just physically but mentally as well, than you not showing up at all.
The same thing applies with your diet. You need to show up when it comes to your diet every day.
Some days I just want to eat ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But there is something about delayed gratification that separates the men from the boys. There is something about sticking to the program and trusting the process even though you just want to binge eat because you’re having a bad day.
That is where discipline comes into play. Discipline is knowing the difference between what you want now and what you want the most.
Your goal is to just try to be 1% better every single day. Try to make one good decision, one better decision every single day. Every day counts; even the bad ones.
Next, you need to follow the right system. Here’s the thing. You can show up every day and you can be brutally honest with yourself. But if you’re not following the right system, you’re not going to get results. Period.
You can be the most consistent human being on the planet. But if you’re following the wrong system, you’re just gonna be chasing your tail. You’re just gonna be spinning your wheels. If you just think that it’s just calories in vs calories out, meaning you eat a little less and move a little bit more, you are not going to get results.
Calories in vs calories out has been proven to have a 99% failure rate. There are rules to weight loss and this is where a lot of people mess up. They have the right intentions but the wrong execution.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different outcome. What got you here isn’t going to get you there. You need to change things up if things aren’t working.
What’s The Best Diet For Weight Loss?
Now, you’re probably wondering. What’s the best diet? (You should check out my YouTube videos if you want a more detailed explanation about this.)
For now, all you need to know is that we evolved 2.5 million years ago. We’ve been around for a long time. We evolved to eat a certain way to survive the harshest conditions this planet has to offer. We evolved to eat plants and animals. Your vegan/vegetarian friends might say otherwise but that’s a fact. We’re omnivores. We’re not herbivores. We evolved to eat nutrient dense foods because feast and famine was a real thing back in the day.
Back then, we didn’t have metabolic syndrome. We didn’t have diabetes. We didn’t have obesity or cancer. None of those diseases existed back in the Paleolithic times. It was only until when modern agriculture started 10,000 years ago that those diseases started.
I think it’s more important to talk about what we did NOT evolve to eat.
We did not evolve to eat fruit all year round. Yet you can get fruit 365 days out of the year and people think it’s healthy. But fruit was seasonal back then. All you need to know about fruit is nature’s candy. It doesn’t get a free pass. It’s full of fructose and it’s making you fat.
We didn’t drink sugary drinks back then. We did not evolve to eat processed carbs, processed foods. and artificial sweeteners. We did not evolve to eat grains and I mentioned this earlier that modern agriculture only started 10,000 years ago. If you do a little math, that is only 0.8% of human history.
Simply put, our genes did not evolve to handle all the grains (and sugar) that we’re putting in our bodies. Yet through brilliant marketing by food companies, grains are now the staple of the standard American diet. We’re told to eat something like 8-12 servings of grains every single day.
The average American eats anywhere between 300-500 grams of carbs every day. Most of those carbs are in the shade of white or yellow. And if you’re following that diet that is the biggest reason why you’re struggling to lose weight.
You need to abolish mealtimes. Breakfast is NOT the most important meal of the day. Especially if you’re eating processed carbs like cereal and oatmeal for breakfast.
You should incorporate intermittent fasting into your routine. Your body will greatly benefit if you introduce periods of time where food isn’t available. Because that is when your body can actually repair itself. You’re simply giving your body a break from digesting food all the time. That’s also when your body uses your own body fat for energy. If you’re trying to lose weight, that’s exactly what you want.
Again, if you’re struggling to lose weight, it starts by being brutally honest with yourself. After that, you can start taking action. You need to show up every day and you need to follow the right system. Do that over time and you’re going to lose weight guaranteed!
As always, if this was helpful, share it with a friend who could benefit from it as well!
